There has been a rise in house sales in Janurary for first-time buyers as the are looking to buy a property before the end of the stamp duty holiday. Surveryors have also reported a fall in house prices in this month.
Since 2010 people purchasing there first property under the value of £250,000 can avoid paying the 1% stamp duty. This exemption ends on 24/03/2012 when the threshold level goes back to the £125,000 level.
